Welcome!

Marching Band is here again.  A time of year that students and educators dread and yearn for simultaneously.  For students, this time of year is a chance to reunite with friends and classmates, unpack the instruments that have been gathering dust over the last 2 months and learn the hard way why it is important to keep those chops in shape over the summer break.  For Director's and staff it is the start of a 3+ month sprint to make the best of what little time you have to accomplish your goals.   In these hectic times, it is often easy to overlook the true value that the marching band season possesses.  It gives us the opportunity to enrich the lives of people, young and old.  It gives the participants the opportunity to to be involved in a constructive, educational, and FUN activity.  It gives educators the chance to pass on their experience and knowledge of the art, and be a part in the preservation of something so unique.  And it gives spectators something to cheer about!  Marching bands in schools and communities are a key tool in gaining the attention of the non-music community.  Marching bands are the only part of a program that can be seen marching down Main Street, and performing at football game half-time shows.  It is the only organized live performances of music that some people hear!  One of our biggest missions here at Volkwein's Music is to preserve and exhibit the importance of music education in our schools and throughout our lives.  As those of us who are invloved in the coming marching band season begin the race that is ahead, let's all keep in mind the responsibility and opportunity we have in front of us, to aid in keeping music in our schools and in our lives.  See you on the field!
